Gola Forest Programme

The Gola Forest in INVALUABLE to the local people as it provides food, forest products, and support livelihoods. The rich biological diversity of the forest is an asset to Sierra Leone and the world.
CSSL, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and the Government of Sierra Leone are closely working together and with surrounding communities to manage the forest for the benefit of local people and wildlife forever. CSSL and RSPB’s involvement in protecting Gola’s birds dates from the late 1980s.
Working alongside the Gola Forest Programme is the Across the River-Trans-boundary Peace Park Project (AR-TBPPP). The AR-TBPPP is an international move towards the conservation of common resources around the border areas between Sierra Leone and Liberia. CSSL is part of the conservation effort together with the Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia, Forestry Division of the Government of Sierra Leone and the Forestry of Development Authority of Liberia.
